To maintain a constant and sustainable water supply for the māra kai, the student enviro-group proposed installing a rainwater collection tank. This system would allow the automatic irrigation system to function even during summer water restrictions.

With support from the school's sustainability coordinator and business manager, students were supported to take the lead in the project while collaborating with contractors to install the tanks.

As a Green-Gold Enviroschool, the school continuously reinforces its kaupapa, aligning with Enviroschools’ Guiding Principles, and making conscious decisions made through a sustainability lens.

Beyond ensuring a reliable water source for the māra kai and supporting sustainable food production, students have collected and analyse rainfall data to look for patterns, and the impacts of climate change in the region. This data can be integrated into climate action learning within science and social studies, fostering a future-focused approach to resource conservation.
