Thanks for your submissions!

29 April 2024

Thank you to everyone who made a submission on our draft 2024-34 Long-term Plan. More than 500 of you, including the people who submitted after our deadline of 5pm on 22 April, took the chance to help us look long term for the benefit of everyone in the Horizons Region.

We heard a range of views on everything from integrated catchment management to options for public transport to get across and between key urban centres. Those of you who fill in our submission form tended to lean towards council's preferred options each time.

Keen to read all the submissions (apart from the late ones)? Head back to the main LTP consultation page on this website (or click/tap here), and find the Submissions section on the right of the page if on desktop or near the bottom of the page if on mobile.

Watch the submissions hearings

Anyone who made a submission had the option to say they wanted to speak to Horizons councillors to further get their message across. Anyone is able to head along to watch the submissions hearings, which you can also watch live on our Facebook page:

  • 29 April - Cooks Gardens Events Centre, Whanganui (9.30am - 3.15pm).
  • 1 May - Horizons Regional Council, Palmerston North (1pm - 8.15pm).
  • 2 May - Horizons Regional Council, Palmerston North (9.30am - 4.30pm).

Follow these steps to find out who is speaking and when:

  • Head the Calendar section on our website by clicking/tapping here.
  • Select the day you're wanting to listen in and open the 'Strategy and Policy Committee' meeting item.
  • Scroll down to find the agenda, which includes timings about who is speaking and when.

What happens next?

After the submissions hearings, Horizons councillors will have some time before deliberating the contents of the Long-term Plan on 14 May. Those deliberations will take place at our Palmerston North office (15 Victoria Ave) on 14 May 2024. They will then adopt the Long-term Plan on 24 June. Both of those meetings will be livestreamed on our Facebook page, and you're also welcome to attend in person.
